R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, John and Nancy Ryder of Austin are celebrating their
  40th wedding anniversary on April 14, 2013, and they may indeed
  reflect with joy on their rewarding relationship; and
         WHEREAS, Dr. and Mrs. Ryder first met in Europe in 1972, when
  they shared the same cabin on a train while en route to Copenhagen
  from Paris; the pair wound up touring Scandinavia together before
  parting ways, but they stayed in touch and, less than a year later,
  they were married in Sudbury, Massachusetts; Europe would remain a
  special place in their lives as they have lived there twice over the
  course of their marriage for a total of 10 years; and
         WHEREAS, Recognizing the importance of education, John Ryder
  earned a bachelor's degree in zoology from The University of Texas
  at Austin and a doctor of optometry degree from the University of
  Houston, while Mrs. Ryder has a history degree from the University
  of New Hampshire; and
         WHEREAS, Dr. Ryder ably served this nation in the army from
  1972 to 1994, when he and his wife settled in Austin; he opened an
  optometry practice in the Capital City that grew to include four
  locations; in their leisure time, the Ryders enjoy traveling and
  cooking, and Mrs. Ryder is an accomplished quilter and knitter; and
         WHEREAS, Dr. and Mrs. Ryder count among their blessings a
  fine family that includes a son, Colin, and a grandson, Noah; and
         WHEREAS, For four decades, John and Nancy Ryder have brought
  to their marriage laughter, kindness, and devotion, and it is a
  pleasure to honor them for their enduring commitment; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate John and Nancy Ryder on their 40th
  wedding anniversary and extend to them sincere best wishes for
  continued happiness; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Dr. and Mrs. Ryder as an expression of high regard by
  the Texas House of Representatives.
