R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The Honorable Larry Robertson, who served as mayor |
|
of Quitman for a decade, passed away on February 21, 2013, leaving |
|
behind a legacy that will continue to resonate in the community for |
|
years to come; and |
|
WHEREAS, Larry Robertson was born on September 27, 1948, in |
|
Dallas to Frank and Bobbie Douglas Robertson; he spent 18 years in |
|
law enforcement, working for the Arlington Police Department, the |
|
Wood County Sheriff's Office, the Upshur County Sheriff's Office, |
|
and the Sulphur Springs Police Department, before embarking on a |
|
career in automobile sales; he served as the sales manager at a Ford |
|
dealership and then opened Larry Robertson's Auto Sales in Quitman, |
|
which he operated for 17 years; and |
|
WHEREAS, In 1990, Mr. Robertson was elected as an alderman on |
|
the Quitman City Council, and in 1997, he served the city as mayor |
|
pro tem; he went on to become mayor later that year, and during his |
|
tenure, he made area parks among his top priorities; when the state |
|
ceased funding for what was then Governor Jim Hogg State Park, he |
|
secured the land for the city, and he played a key role in the |
|
development and construction of Heritage Youth Sports Park and the |
|
municipal swimming pool; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Robertson also helped to found the Quitman |
|
Heritage Foundation, and he was a charter member of the local |
|
Kiwanis Club; in addition, he served on the board of the Wood County |
|
Industrial Commission; and |
|
WHEREAS, In all of his endeavors, Mr. Robertson enjoyed the |
|
love and support of his wife, Marilyn Robertson, and he took pride |
|
in his son, Gordon, his daughters, Leslie and Lori, and his six |
|
grandchildren; and |
|
WHEREAS, Larry Robertson built a life that was rich in |
|
family, friends, and accomplishments, and he will be fondly |
|
remembered and deeply missed; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Larry Robertson and |
|
extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his |
|
parents, Frank and Bobbie Robertson; to his wife, Marilyn |
|
Robertson; to his son, Gordon Shockley; to his daughters, Leslie |
|
Sperling and her husband, Clint, and Lori McCombie; to his brother, |
|
David Robertson, and his wife, Lisa; to his sister, Carolyn |
|
Landers, and her husband, John; to his grandchildren, Gabe, Keegan, |
|
and Chloe McCombie, Helen and Andie Sperling, and Maya Herrera; and |
|
to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Larry |
|
Robertson. |
