R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, The 105th birthday of an esteemed Texan is indeed a
  special occasion, and Laura Ann Ransom of Denver City is
  celebrating this milestone with family and friends on April 16,
  2013; and
         WHEREAS, Born in Atoka, Oklahoma, in 1908, the former Laura
  Rutherford is the daughter of Benson and Sidney Jane Rutherford;
  she spent her early years in central and western Oklahoma; and
         WHEREAS, She was joined in matrimony to Clyde Ransom, and the
  couple became the proud parents of a daughter, Ovella; later, Mrs.
  Ransom experienced the joy of welcoming into her family a
  granddaughter and grandson; and
         WHEREAS, For many years, she and her husband owned and
  operated Ransom Photography Studio in Hobart, Oklahoma; they later
  retired from the business and moved to Pampa, Texas; following the
  death of her husband, Mrs. Ransom lived for a time in Memphis,
  Texas, and in 2004, she moved to Denver City to be near family
  members; and
         WHEREAS, Today, Mrs. Ransom is a treasured resident of the
  Shinnery Oaks Community, where she generously shares her wealth of
  fascinating memories with others; she participates in a morning
  exercise class, and on Sunday afternoons, she delights in visits
  from area church choirs; while her failing eyesight has kept her
  from such favorite activities as knitting and crocheting, she takes
  great pleasure in singing along to hymns and getting her nails done;
  and
         WHEREAS, Laura Ransom has witnessed a panorama of change over
  the course of more than a century, and through her faith, wisdom,
  and experience, she continues to enrich the lives of all who are
  fortunate enough to know her; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Laura Ann Ransom on the occasion of
  her 105th birthday and extend to her sincere best wishes for
  continued happiness; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mrs. Ransom as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
