R E S O L U T I O N
|

|
|
WHEREAS, The Honorable Wayne Riddle is retiring as mayor of |
|
|
Deer Park on May 19, 2013, drawing to a close an exemplary tenure |
|
|
spanning more than three decades in city government; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A resident of Deer Park since 1969, Wayne Riddle |
|
|
served on the city council from 1981 until his election as mayor in |
|
|
1999; he has ably led the city through a period of significant |
|
|
growth while maintaining economic stability and quality of life; |
|
|
and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mayor Riddle has demonstrated exceptional |
|
|
dedication to municipal government through his leadership in |
|
|
numerous professional associations at the local, state, and |
|
|
national levels; he is currently a member of the Advisory Committee |
|
|
for the Texas Municipal Retirement System and serves the National |
|
|
League of Cities on both the Small Cities Council and the Policy |
|
|
Review Committee for Energy, Environment, and Natural Disasters; in |
|
|
addition, he serves the United States Conference of Mayors on both |
|
|
its Tourism, Arts, Parks, Entertainment, and Sports Committee and |
|
|
its Environment Committee; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Previously, Mayor Riddle was president of the Texas |
|
|
Municipal League Region 14, and he has served on the league's board |
|
|
and as a member of its legislative committee and task force on |
|
|
intergovernmental relations; moreover, he has served as president |
|
|
of the Harris County Mayors' and Councils' Association and of the |
|
|
Texas Association of Mayors, Councilmembers, and Commissioners; |
|
|
and |
|
|
WHEREAS, This dynamic public servant has shared his expertise |
|
|
over the years with a number of school district committees and a |
|
|
variety of other organizations working toward the betterment of the |
|
|
community, among them the Mayor's Anti-Drug Steering Committee, the |
|
|
Deer Park task force on vandalism, and the board of the Harris |
|
|
County South East Economic Development Council; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Further benefiting his fellow citizens, Mayor |
|
|
Riddle has served as president of the Deer Park Rotary Club, the |
|
|
Deer Park Chamber of Commerce, the Pasadena Deepwater Optimist |
|
|
Club, and the Optimist Club of Alvin; he is a Scottish Rite 32nd |
|
|
Degree Mason and a member of the Deer Park Masonic Lodge; his many |
|
|
accolades include selection as Deer Park's outstanding citizen for |
|
|
1991; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Retirement will allow Mayor Riddle to spend more |
|
|
time at his businesses, the Wayne Riddle Insurance Agency and the |
|
|
Deer Park Insurance Agency, Inc., and with his wife and business |
|
|
partner, Jean Riddle; he is the proud father of four, grandfather of |
|
|
seven, and great-grandfather of six; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, With an unwavering commitment to public service, |
|
|
Wayne Riddle has garnered the lasting respect and admiration of all |
|
|
who know him, and he may indeed reflect with pride on his many |
|
|
achievements; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate the Honorable Wayne Riddle on the |
|
|
occasion of his retirement as mayor of Deer Park and commend him for |
|
|
his outstanding contributions to the community; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Mayor Riddle as an expression of high regard by the |
|
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
