R E S O L U T I O N

|
|
WHEREAS, The Calderon Branch of the Boys and Girls Clubs of |
|
|
San Antonio helps young people realize their full potential as |
|
|
productive, responsible, and caring citizens and is indeed worthy |
|
|
of recognition for its contributions to the community; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Calderon Branch of the Boys and Girls Clubs |
|
|
serves more than 1,900 youth between the ages of 6 and 12 with the |
|
|
goal of enhancing the educational, social, and moral development of |
|
|
its members; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Under the skillful leadership of director Renee |
|
|
Sweeney, the Calderon Branch offers programs that promote good |
|
|
nutrition and physical activity and encourage sound decision |
|
|
making; a variety of sports, fitness, and recreational activities |
|
|
are also provided in the club's gymnasium, swimming pool, |
|
|
playground, arts room, and technology lab, and the BGCSA conducts |
|
|
clothing drives, art competitions, and giveaways for the benefit of |
|
|
residents throughout the neighborhood; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, By reinforcing positive behavior, encouraging |
|
|
responsibility, and emphasizing a code of ethics and positive |
|
|
values, the Calderon Boys and Girls Club is making a meaningful |
|
|
difference in the lives of young Texans; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby commend the Calderon Branch of the Boys and |
|
|
Girls Clubs of San Antonio for its admirable work in behalf of local |
|
|
youth and extend to all those associated with the organization |
|
|
sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for the group as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
|
House of Representatives. |
