R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The Munday High School football team capped an |
|
undefeated season by winning the 2012 University Interscholastic |
|
League 1A Division 2 state championship on December 20 at Cowboys |
|
Stadium in Arlington; and |
|
WHEREAS, This occasion marked the second consecutive year |
|
that the Moguls reached the title game, and once again they faced |
|
the team from Tenaha High School; eager to avenge its loss in the |
|
2011 championship final, Munday jumped out to an early lead only to |
|
have Tenaha battle back to tie the score 14-14 at the half; and |
|
WHEREAS, The turning point in the game came with just less |
|
than five minutes to play in the third quarter; Munday defensive end |
|
L. J. Collier returned an interception 37 yards for a touchdown to |
|
give the Moguls a 28-14 lead; quarterback Dee Paul then reeled off |
|
two long touchdown runs in the fourth quarter to pad the lead while |
|
the tough Munday defense completely shut down the Tenaha scoring |
|
attack throughout the second half; when the final seconds ticked |
|
away, the Moguls claimed a decisive 42-14 triumph and the third |
|
football championship in school history; and |
|
WHEREAS, All season long, Munday excelled thanks to a true |
|
team effort, with impressive leadership provided by senior captains |
|
Jake Myers, Tyrone Dockins, Logan Groves, and Dee Paul; the squad |
|
received expert guidance from head coach Patrick Corcoran and |
|
assistant coaches Ronny Lowrance, Greg Clark, and Larry Welch; |
|
valuable support was also provided by superintendent Robert |
|
Dillard, principal Tra Hall, and a dedicated staff of student |
|
trainers; and |
|
WHEREAS, The members of the Munday High football team |
|
demonstrated admirable skill and determination in winning the state |
|
championship and attaining a flawless record against top |
|
competition, and they will forever treasure the memory of this |
|
unforgettable season; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate the Munday High School football |
|
team on winning the 2012 UIL 1A Division 2 state championship and |
|
extend to the team's players, coaches, and staff sincere best |
|
wishes for continued success; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
