R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The Nueces County Junior Livestock Show Queen
  Contest marked its 50th anniversary with the January 12, 2013,
  competition in Robstown; and
         WHEREAS, This year, 22 young women took part in the event,
  which included an opening number as well as interview, talent, and
  evening wear portions; also present at the contest were 14 past
  queens, including Grace Ann Polasek, who served as mistress of
  ceremonies; and
         WHEREAS, At the end of the regular program the results were
  tied, and the top five finalists were posed an additional round of
  questions, during which a panel of judges evaluated the contestants
  on their interview skills, poise, appearance, and personality; when
  the last scores were tabulated, Makenzie Wright of Bluntzer 4-H was
  crowned NCJLS Queen, and Rebekah Wessels of Nueces County 4-H
  Ambassadors was named first runner-up; Ms. Wessels also received
  recognition for Best Smile and Top Talent; further laurels went to
  second runner-up Kennedy Barron of Agua Dulce FFA, third runner-up
  Abigail Phelps of Flour Bluff/Padre Island 4-H, and fourth
  runner-up Lauryn Hefte of Nueces County 4-H Council; in addition,
  Cassidy Hoyle of Bishop FFA/Jr. FFA was named Miss Congeniality,
  and Katy Womack of West Oso 4-H was awarded the accolade for Best
  Dress; and
         WHEREAS, The title of NCJLS Queen carries with it a $5,000
  scholarship and the honor of bestowing prizes at the Nueces County
  Junior Livestock Show; the queen also represents the NCJLS at
  parades and events throughout the year; and
         WHEREAS, For five decades, the Queen Contest has served as a
  showcase for the many talents of young women in Nueces County, and
  the event is indeed deserving of recognition at this notable point
  in its rich history; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby honor the 2013 Nueces County Junior Livestock
  Show Queen Contest on the occasion of its 50th anniversary and
  extend to all those associated with the event sincere best wishes
  for continued success.
