R E S O L U T I O N
|

|
|
WHEREAS, The year 2013 marks the 90th anniversary of the |
|
|
founding of St. Patrick Cathedral School in El Paso; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Established by the Sisters of Loretto at the Foot of |
|
|
the Cross in 1923, St. Patrick Cathedral School has provided |
|
|
generations of area youth a strong educational basis in a welcoming |
|
|
and supportive environment; originally serving 220 students in |
|
|
first through seventh grades out of the community center, the |
|
|
school moved to its present location in 1938 and now hosts |
|
|
prekindergarten to eighth grade classes; this place of learning |
|
|
emphasizes a holistic approach to education that develops |
|
|
children's spiritual, intellectual, and physical development; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Over the years, the school has benefited from the |
|
|
leadership of many individuals, mainly from the Sisters of Loretto |
|
|
until the first layperson was appointed principal in 1976; today, |
|
|
that tradition of service is continued by principal Liliana Esparza |
|
|
and assistant principal Elizabeth Carreon; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, For nine decades, St. Patrick has equipped thousands |
|
|
of young Texans with a strong educational foundation, and it is |
|
|
indeed a pleasure to recognize the school at this point in its rich |
|
|
history; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby commemorate the 90th anniversary of St. Patrick |
|
|
Cathedral School and extend to its administrators, faculty, staff, |
|
|
and students sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for the school as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
|
House of Representatives. |
