R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, Michael Treybig is retiring from his position as
  head football coach and athletic director of the Palacios
  Independent School District in June 2013, drawing to a close an
  impressive 34-year career in education and athletics; and
         WHEREAS, A Palacios native who spent his early childhood in
  the city, Mike Treybig began his coaching career in 1980 at Marian
  Christian High School in Houston; there, he served as the defensive
  coordinator and, later, as head coach of the football team, and he
  guided the school's track athletes to three state championships;
  and
         WHEREAS, He went on to coach at Stafford and Van Vleck High
  Schools before becoming the head football coach and athletic
  director for the Industrial and Sweeny Independent School
  Districts; along the way, his football teams claimed numerous
  district championships, and he earned multiple coach of the year
  awards; in addition to his accomplishments on the gridiron, he
  coached other sports, including track and cross-country at Stafford
  and track and power lifting at Sweeny; moreover, his work as an
  educator has included teaching assignments for history and physical
  education classes, and he served as the principal of Industrial
  High School during the 1995-1996 school year; and
         WHEREAS, In 2005, Coach Treybig returned to his hometown to
  become the head coach and athletic director; he guided the Fighting
  Sharks to the state playoffs in 2007, the team's first appearance in
  the postseason in 43 years, and that achievement earned him the
  Coach of the Year award from the Victoria Advocate; in his work as
  athletic director, he has helped build support for the Booster Club
  scholarship program and established the Palacios Athletic Hall of
  Honor; and
         WHEREAS, Beyond the victories and awards, Coach Treybig's
  most significant contribution is the positive role he has played in
  the lives of hundreds of student-athletes; he has placed a strong
  emphasis on academics and has introduced many young Texans to the
  importance of community service by involving them in such efforts
  as collecting items for local food banks and raising funds for
  cancer research; his work as a mentor was honored in 2010, when he
  received the University Interscholastic League Sponsor Excellence
  Award; and
         WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Coach Treybig enjoys the love
  and support of his wife of 32 years, Jil, who works as a junior high
  school librarian; the couple have raised three daughters, Jayme,
  Jessica, and Jenna, two of whom have followed in their parents'
  footsteps and entered the field of education; and
         WHEREAS, For more than three decades, Mike Treybig has helped
  teach young Texans important lessons about teamwork and commitment,
  and he may indeed reflect with pride on his many accomplishments as
  he looks forward to the next exciting chapter of his life; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Michael Treybig on his retirement
  from the Palacios Independent School District and extend to him
  sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Coach Treybig as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
