R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, A 50th wedding anniversary marks a lifetime of
  mutual devotion and shared experiences, and Norman and Martha Wood
  of Lake Jackson celebrated this joyous milestone in their marriage
  on March 23, 2013; and
         WHEREAS, Norman Royce Wood and the former Martha Sue Hutchins
  were joined in matrimony in 1963; through the years, they have been
  blessed with a treasured family that includes three children,
  Colette Helmintoller and her husband, Sam, Richard Wood and his
  wife, Amy, and Amanda Wood, as well as seven grandchildren, Shelby
  Hollen and her husband, Chris, Dakota, Montana, Robert, and Brandon
  Wood, and Sidney and Madison Helmintoller, and two
  great-grandchildren, Aiden Guillen and Kaden Hollen; and
         WHEREAS, Raised in Angleton, Mr. Wood served his country in
  the U.S. Army from 1961 to 1964, attaining the rank of Sergeant E5;
  he and Mrs. Wood, a native of Clute, spent their initial years of
  marriage in Fort Hood, where Mr. Wood was stationed, but soon
  returned to Brazoria County; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Wood worked as a machinist and a nursing home
  administrator before becoming self-employed as the owner of a home
  care supply company in 1978, while Mrs. Wood was a secretary, a
  homemaker, and a food service worker before joining her husband as a
  co-owner of the business; since retiring on July 1, 2000, the couple
  have taken pleasure in touring America on their Honda Gold Wing as
  part of a road riders association, playing golf, and working in
  their garden; and
         WHEREAS, In addition to meeting their work and family
  responsibilities, they have been valued contributors to numerous
  community organizations; Mr. Wood was a volunteer for Little League
  and girls' softball and served for 20 years with the Lake Jackson
  Volunteer Fire Department; he was a longtime member of the Boy
  Scouts of America Bay Area Council, which he served as president,
  and he is currently active in the Brazosport Rotary Club, the
  Community Foundation of Brazoria County, and Crystal Crafters;
  Mrs. Wood previously shared her time as a room mom and as a member
  of both the Parent Teacher Organization at Elisabet Ney Elementary
  and the Lake Jackson VFD Auxiliary; for the last quarter-century,
  she has distinguished herself through her involvement with the
  Brazosport Rotary Club Auxiliary; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Wood have enjoyed five decades of
  abiding love and affection for each other, and they are among an
  exceptional group of men and women who can claim such a lasting
  commitment; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Norman and Martha Wood on their
  golden wedding anniversary and extend to them sincere best wishes
  for continued happiness; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Wood as an expression of high regard by
  the Texas House of Representatives.
