R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Wesley Community Center in Robstown is hosting its |
|
|
annual banquet on April 25, 2013, and this event provides a fitting |
|
|
opportunity to recognize the organization for its contributions to |
|
|
the Coastal Bend community; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Established in 1941 by the Women's Society of |
|
|
Christian Service of the First United Methodist Church, Wesley |
|
|
Community Center has offered a number of vital programs through the |
|
|
years, including kindergarten classes, assistance and training for |
|
|
disabled youth, parenting courses, and tutoring and peer mentoring |
|
|
services; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The center currently provides child care for many |
|
|
low-income, homeless, and foster children with the support of the |
|
|
General Board of Global Ministries of the United Methodist Church, |
|
|
the local United Way, and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban |
|
|
Development; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Under the leadership of executive director MaLinda |
|
|
Conway Faughn and board president Bonnie Berry, Wesley Community |
|
|
Center remains a positive force in South Texas, and its efforts |
|
|
continue to change countless lives for the better; now, therefore, |
|
|
be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby honor Wesley Community Center on the occasion of |
|
|
its annual banquet and extend to all those associated with the |
|
|
organization sincere best wishes for continued success with their |
|
|
important work; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for the center as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
|
House of Representatives. |
