R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The Newton Garden Club celebrated the 50th |
|
anniversary of its founding in 2012; and |
|
WHEREAS, Established by 39 charter members, the Newton Garden |
|
Club was led by president Helen Syler when it held its inaugural |
|
meeting at First United Methodist Church in September 1962; today, |
|
the organization continues to affirm the original purpose laid out |
|
in the bylaws to "stimulate the love of gardening, encourage home |
|
and community beautification, promote better horticultural |
|
practices, and to encourage all forms of conservation"; and |
|
WHEREAS, Each year, the garden club hosts a flower show where |
|
area residents enjoy showcasing their projects; members have worked |
|
to beautify the city by planting and maintaining gardens at the |
|
county courthouse and at the Powell Hotel Museum, where they placed |
|
a plaque to honor those who have served in our nation's military; in |
|
addition, the group has planted more than 2,000 daffodils, which |
|
bring vibrant color to the community each year; and |
|
WHEREAS, For half a century, the Newton Garden Club has |
|
provided its members an opportunity to set aside their daily cares |
|
and enjoy the happiness found in creating a thing of beauty, and |
|
through their efforts, they have brightened the lives of their |
|
fellow residents; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby honor the Newton Garden Club on the 50th |
|
anniversary of its founding and extend to its members best wishes |
|
for continued success; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the group as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
