R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Memories of a life filled with joyful times and
  meaningful accomplishments remain to comfort the family and friends
  of Powell Allen Scheumack of Houston, who passed away on March 20,
  2013, at the age of 91; and
         WHEREAS, Born in Victoria on September 22, 1921, to John and
  Josephine Scheumack, "Pal" Scheumack graduated from Victoria High
  School in 1939; he went on to serve as a member of the U.S. Army Air
  Forces during World War II; as a fighter pilot, he flew 113 combat
  missions and commanded a P-51 squadron, and he made four emergency
  parachute jumps; for his bravery and accomplishments, he reached
  the rank of major and was decorated with the Purple Heart, Silver
  Star, Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal with two oak leaf
  clusters, and European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Ribbon with
  three bronze stars; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Scheumack subsequently earned a bachelor's
  degree in electrical engineering from Texas A&M University; he was
  employed by the Dashiell Corporation for a quarter of a century and
  was a member of the Professional Engineers and the Electrical and
  Electronic Engineers; and
         WHEREAS, For 43 years, until he turned 70, Mr. Scheumack
  refereed high school football games; during his tenure, he presided
  over two regional football officials' associations and received two
  distinguished service awards and an honorary life membership from
  officials' and coaches' associations; in his leisure time, he was an
  enthusiastic vegetable gardener and bridge player and was active in
  his Sherwood Oaks neighborhood; and
         WHEREAS, In all of his endeavors, Mr. Scheumack enjoyed the
  love and support of his wife of 61 years, Elizabeth Parker
  Scheumack, and he took pride in a fine family that included three
  children, Susan Scheumack Roberds and her husband, Bill, Jeff
  Scheumack and his wife, Kathy, and Sarah Scheumack Giles, as well as
  four grandchildren, Kyle and Griffin Scheumack and Courtney and
  Valerie Giles; and
         WHEREAS, While the death of Pal Scheumack has brought great
  sadness to his family and friends, he leaves behind a legacy that
  will be forever treasured by all those who held him dear; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Pal Scheumack and
  extend sincere condolences to his friends and loved ones; and, be it
  further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Pal
  Scheumack.
