R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The untimely death of Folabi Akanbi of Pearland on
  February 27, 2013, at the age of 17, has brought great loss to the
  family and friends of this talented young student-athlete; and
         WHEREAS, Born on April 27, 1995, to Bola and Lola Akanbi,
  Folabi Akanbi was a senior at Glenda Dawson High School, where he
  was admired for his successes both on the football field and in the
  classroom; an honor roll student, he took pride in his studies and
  had completed college course work in a number of subjects; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Akanbi was eager to do his best, no matter the
  endeavor; as a junior varsity player at Dawson, he impressed his
  coaches with his hard work and skill and went on to earn a place as
  starting tackle on the 24-4A district championship team; he soon
  drew the interest of college football programs and became one of the
  most sought-after recruits in the 2013 class; and
         WHEREAS, In choosing where he would play at the collegiate
  level, Mr. Akanbi made his education the priority; he had recently
  signed a letter of intent for Montana State University and chose the
  school as much for its academic offerings as for its football
  program; he affirmed this in his recruiting profile, writing that
  if he did not get the opportunity to play football professionally
  one day, he would make a career for himself with his education; he
  planned to major in chemical engineering; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Akanbi effortlessly endeared himself to others
  with his ever-present smile and upbeat demeanor, and he left a
  lasting impression on all who had the privilege to know him; he
  enjoyed the companionship of a host of friends, and he was supported
  and encouraged by his family; and
         WHEREAS, While no words can diminish the sorrow caused by the
  sudden loss of such a promising young man, the loved ones of Folabi
  Akanbi may find peace and inspiration in remembering the many
  wonderful qualities that characterized his life; now, therefore, be
  it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Folabi Akanbi and
  extend sincere sympathy to his parents, Dr. Bola Akanbi and Lola
  Akanbi, and to his other relatives and many friends; and, be it
  further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Folabi
  Akanbi.
