R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, St. Joseph's School in El Paso is celebrating the |
|
90th anniversary of its establishment in 2013; and |
|
WHEREAS, The bishop of the El Paso Diocese directed Father |
|
Doherty of St. Joseph's Church to begin construction on an |
|
educational institution in 1923; he did so, and also recruited the |
|
Sisters of Loretto to serve as staff and administrators; and |
|
WHEREAS, A parish church and rectory were added to the school |
|
in 1938, and the Sisters of Loretto continued to teach and run the |
|
school until 1977, when the duty fell to the laity; a dozen years |
|
later, Father Francisco Herrera of St. Joseph's Church invited the |
|
Brothers of the Poor of St. Francis to assume the administration of |
|
the school, and they have handled that responsibility to this day; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, St. Joseph's School currently has an enrollment of |
|
more than 500 students in prekindergarten through the eighth grade |
|
and is accredited through the Roman Catholic Diocese of El Paso and |
|
the Texas Catholic Conference Educational Agency; and |
|
WHEREAS, For nine decades, the faculty and staff of St. |
|
Joseph's School have committed themselves to meeting the needs of |
|
their students, and the school has played a vital role in helping |
|
many young Texans build a bright and prosperous future; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby commemorate the 90th anniversary of St. Joseph's |
|
School in El Paso and extend to all those associated with the school |
|
sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the school as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
