R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Former state representative Hill Kemp is making an |
|
impressive contribution toward addressing a major problem facing |
|
this state, the availability of safe, clean drinking water; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Kemp, a chemical engineer, is CEO of KII, Inc., |
|
a company that holds a patent on a solar still, its Suns River |
|
technology, that is based on a process proposed by Aristotle and |
|
that produces distilled water from saline water using solar energy; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, In 2011, the company received a grant from the |
|
U.S. Bureau of Reclamation to install a commercial-sized module of |
|
the Suns River desalination process at the Brackish Groundwater |
|
Desalination Research Facility in Alamogordo, New Mexico; and |
|
WHEREAS, The success of that pilot project led to a decision |
|
by The University of Texas at El Paso to conduct further research, |
|
and a collaborative effort among UTEP, the Bureau of Reclamation, |
|
and KII, Inc., is underway at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Desalination |
|
Plant in El Paso; and |
|
WHEREAS, Texas has a critical need for good, potable water to |
|
maintain lives and businesses, and by harnessing the power of the |
|
sun to produce freshwater, Mr. Kemp is working to create a |
|
healthier and more prosperous future; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate former state representative Hill |
|
Kemp on the development of a solar still project for water |
|
desalination and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued |
|
success; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mr. Kemp as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
