R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Seven exemplary Texas high school students have
  earned scholarships from the General Motors Foundation as part of
  the 2012 Buick Achievers Scholarship Program; and
         WHEREAS, Established in 1976, the GM Foundation is dedicated
  to investing in the development of the next generation of leaders
  and innovators; its signature initiative, the Buick Achievers
  Scholarship Program, is among the largest of its kind in the
  country, providing awards of up to $25,000 per year to outstanding
  high school and undergraduate college students; and
         WHEREAS, To be eligible for a scholarship, individuals must
  demonstrate academic achievement as well as leadership and
  involvement in community and school activities; in addition, they
  must plan to major in a specified course of study that focuses on
  engineering and technology or select design and business-related
  subjects, and they must be interested in pursuing a career in the
  automotive industry or a related field; and
         WHEREAS, A total of 91 individuals across the country
  received a Buick Achievers Scholarship as part of the 2012 program;
  the Texas recipients are Ashley Abril of Katy, who plans to major in
  mechanical engineering at The University of Texas at Austin, Emily
  Almaguer of Lubbock, who plans to major in marketing at Texas Tech
  University, Alexander Bryant of Abilene, who plans to major in
  graphic design at Angelo State University, Mariah Green of San
  Antonio, who plans to major in accounting at The University of Texas
  at Austin, Thomas Jones of Orange, who plans to major in electrical
  engineering at Freed-Hardeman University, Nguyen Tran of Houston,
  who plans to major in mechanical engineering at The University of
  Texas at Austin, and Haley Turpin of Graham, who plans to major in
  computer engineering at Texas A&M University; and
         WHEREAS, These talented young Texans have applied themselves
  diligently to their scholastic and community service endeavors, and
  they may take great pride in their achievements as they look forward
  to the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead; now, therefore,
  be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate the Texas honorees in the 2012
  Buick Achievers Scholarship Program and extend to them sincere best
  wishes for the future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the students and for the GM Foundation as an expression
  of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
