R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The Southwestern Assemblies of God University men's
  basketball team enjoyed an outstanding 2012-2013 season, advancing
  all the way to the National Association of Intercollegiate
  Athletics Division I championship game on March 19 in Kansas City,
  Missouri; and
         WHEREAS, Under the leadership of head coach Donnie Bostwick,
  the Lions won a school-record 33 games while losing only 5; the team
  captured the Red River Athletic Conference regular season crown and
  earned the sixth overall seed in the NAIA tournament; and
         WHEREAS, SAGU opened that competition by reeling off
  consecutive victories over the University of Science and Arts of
  Oklahoma, Martin Methodist College, and the University of Montana
  Western; in the semifinals, the Lions scored a commanding 80-64 win
  against Lindsey Wilson College to claim their spot in the title
  contest, where they fell to Georgetown College, ending their season
  as the Division I runner-up; and
         WHEREAS, The team's impressive play on the court was
  recognized with a number of accolades; Dominique Rambo was chosen
  as an All-American as well as NAIA Co-Player of the Year and Red
  River Athletic Conference Player of the Year, and he and Michael
  Nwelue were named to the NAIA All-Tournament team and received
  All-Conference honors; moreover, Caleb Gentry was an
  All-Conference honorable mention and Coach Bostwick was selected as
  RRAC Coach of the Year; and
         WHEREAS, SAGU's achievements were the result of a true team
  effort, with valuable contributions also being made by the other
  members of the roster: Maurice Oglesby, James Ford, Tyler Guidry,
  Justas Norvilas, Jonathan Walter, Reid Brunner, Adam Martinez,
  Emmanuel Adoyi, Nathaniel Duce Ward, Ryan Alford, Clayton O'Neill,
  and Ben Starks; Coach Bostwick was ably supported by assistant
  coaches Garrett Jones and Kyle Tucker, and the squad further
  benefited from the spiritual guidance of team chaplain David
  Leatherberry; and
         WHEREAS, In addition to their success on the court, the Lions
  distinguished themselves by demonstrating on a daily basis such
  important values as integrity, sportsmanship, and servant
  leadership, and they were designated as an NAIA Champions of
  Character team; and
         WHEREAS, Through their talent and determination, the
  Southwestern Assemblies of God University basketball players
  established the team as a top contender on the national stage, and
  they may take justifiable pride in their notable accomplishments;
  now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate the Southwestern Assemblies of God
  University men's basketball team on its exceptional season and on
  its appearance in the NAIA Division I national championship game
  and extend to the team's players, coaches, and staff sincere best
  wishes for the future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
