R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, In an extraordinary display of courage and |
|
dedication to duty, Deputy Arthur Senteno of the Washington County |
|
Sheriff's Office willingly risked his life to rescue an elderly man |
|
from a burning home on March 2, 2013; and |
|
WHEREAS, Early that morning, Deputy Senteno responded to a |
|
9-1-1 call from the man's wife, who told the dispatcher that her |
|
husband had gone back into their residence to rescue their dog; and |
|
WHEREAS, Flames were shooting nine feet over the roof when |
|
Deputy Senteno arrived, and while a volunteer firefighter hastened |
|
into his protective gear, the deputy entered the house through the |
|
front door, which was ablaze, calling out for the man; and |
|
WHEREAS, Crouching in the dense smoke with burning pieces of |
|
the ceiling falling around him, Deputy Senteno located the man and |
|
asked him if his wife was also in the house; the man was confused, so |
|
the deputy forced him out the back door of the house, then went back |
|
inside to look for the wife; and |
|
WHEREAS, Driven out again by the heat and smoke, Deputy |
|
Senteno found the man talking to his wife, who was sitting in their |
|
SUV, so he compelled the man to get into the car and ordered the |
|
couple to drive away from the house; he then entered the smoke again |
|
briefly to look for the dog, until, his throat and lungs burning, he |
|
escaped just before he was ready to pass out; and |
|
WHEREAS, In the end, the couple were saved, and the brave |
|
deputy was treated for smoke inhalation and released; the dog was |
|
safe as well, having made its own way out of the fire; and |
|
WHEREAS, In placing himself in harm's way to save the life of |
|
another, Deputy Senteno embodied the highest ideals of the law |
|
enforcement profession, and he is indeed deserving of special |
|
recognition for his remarkable act of valor; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby commend Deputy Arthur Senteno for his heroism in |
|
rescuing a man from a house fire and extend to him sincere best |
|
wishes for continued success with his important work; and, be it |
|
further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Deputy Senteno as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
