R E S O L U T I O N
|

|
|
WHEREAS, The BEST Education Foundation celebrates its 20th |
|
|
anniversary in 2013, and this occasion provides an opportunity to |
|
|
recognize the organization's important role in the Garland |
|
|
Independent School District; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Founded by former GISD superintendent Dr. Jill |
|
|
Shugart and by Ruth Buchholz, a local philanthropist, the BEST |
|
|
Education Foundation promotes academic excellence throughout the |
|
|
district by generating and distributing resources to support |
|
|
schools and their staffs, teachers, and students; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The organization, overseen by a 17-member board of |
|
|
directors, raises funds from individuals, businesses, |
|
|
corporations, and other groups to offset programming costs; with |
|
|
its partners, the foundation has funded literacy campaigns, |
|
|
technology workshops, confidence-building seminars, professional |
|
|
development, and many other innovative initiatives; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, At the anniversary gala held on January 24, 2013, |
|
|
Keith Reimer, the organization's program specialist, distributed |
|
|
more than $30,000 to area schools and teachers; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The BEST Education Foundation helps ensure that |
|
|
Garland schools and teachers have the tools they need to prepare |
|
|
young Texans for the future, and it is a pleasure to recognize the |
|
|
organization for its positive impact on the community; now, |
|
|
therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate the BEST Education Foundation on |
|
|
its 20th anniversary and extend to its staff and board of directors |
|
|
sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for the foundation as an expression of high regard by the |
|
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
