R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Members of the Sunshine Service Unit of the Girl
  Scouts of San Jacinto Council in Houston have attained the Girl
  Scout Gold Award, the organization's highest commendation; and
         WHEREAS, To earn this distinction, they successfully met a
  series of requirements emphasizing community service, personal and
  spiritual growth, positive values, and leadership skills; in
  addition, they planned and implemented Girl Scout Gold Award
  projects that will have a positive and lasting impact in their
  communities; and
         WHEREAS, The projects covered a wide range of topics
  depending on the interests of each scout: Jacquelyn Carter educated
  adolescents on the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle and
  demonstrated methods of staying physically fit; Keturah Crease
  raised awareness of the benefits of recycling by organizing a
  community recycling day and distributing more than 700 bags; Lyla
  Lyles gave swimming lessons to young people in an effort to help
  prevent drownings; Kirby Miller organized a theater camp for first
  through sixth grade girls to help them express their feelings in
  character; Jessica Milton conducted six-week math tutorial
  sessions for Lamar Consolidated High School students; Lauren Morgan
  held dating awareness sessions for teenagers; Kandyce Spencer
  conducted scrapbooking classes for senior citizens; Karesha Wilson
  organized workshops on how to live healthy with diabetes; Joi Walls
  instructed students on good nutrition and food preparation; Sabra
  Washington taught job hunting skills to women at Star of Hope
  Mission and collected and donated more than 40 women's suits to the
  group; and Yolonda Williams created a petition against texting
  while driving and collected over 100 signatures from young drivers
  who pledged not to text while behind the wheel; and
         WHEREAS, Committed to bettering the lives of their fellow
  citizens, these dynamic young Texans have demonstrated remarkable
  maturity and dedication, and they indeed exemplify the highest
  ideals of the Girl Scout organization; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby commend the Girl Scout Gold Award recipients of
  the San Jacinto Council Sunshine Service Unit for their outstanding
  contributions to their community and extend to them sincere best
  wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the unit as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
