R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, A 50th wedding anniversary marks a lifetime of
  mutual devotion and shared experiences, and Herb and Catherine
  Legate of Houston celebrated this joyous milestone in their
  marriage on February 16, 2013; and
         WHEREAS, Howard Henry Legate, Jr., and Catherine Cook
  Hammerich were joined in matrimony in 1963 at a ceremony held in
  Houston at the home of the bride's mother, and they have been
  blessed with a loving family of two children, Bryan Dudley Legate
  and Laura Lorraine Legate Jageman, and two grandchildren, Rachel
  Lorraine Jageman and Nancy Catherine Jageman; and
         WHEREAS, Catherine Legate grew up in Dallas and Houston,
  received a BA in history and English from Baylor University in 1957
  and an MA in English as a Peabody Fellow from Vanderbilt University
  in 1959, taught for one year in a Houston elementary school, served
  in her family's business, Meinhard Galleries of Houston, as art
  conservator, gallery director, and co-owner for 20 years, and
  volunteered for 15 years with the Blue Bird Circle charity in
  Houston; and
         WHEREAS, Herb Legate was born on a West Texas ranch, was
  raised in San Antonio and Waco, graduated from Baylor University
  with degrees in geology and journalism, spent a year as a geologist
  with Great Basins Petroleum Company in Denver, served in the
  U.S. Air Force as a B-47 bomber pilot and retired as a captain;
  Mr. Legate was subsequently associated for many years with the
  R. B. Wilbur Company, a Texas manufacturers' representative firm
  selling industrial hardware; he purchased and then sold that firm
  and then invested in Houston real estate through his Westminster
  investment firm, and was co-owner of Meinhard Galleries with
  Mrs. Legate; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Legate have traveled widely in the
  United States and Europe for business and pleasure, have been
  members of the Houston Racquet Club, and have been active members of
  Bethel Independent Presbyterian Church of Houston for more than
  four decades; Mrs. Legate taught Sunday school at the church for 30
  years, and Mr. Legate reorganized and operated the church library
  of 6,000 volumes and sang in the choir, performing great classical
  anthems of the church; and
         WHEREAS, This husband and wife have enjoyed five decades of
  abiding love and affection for each other and are among an
  exceptional group of men and women who can claim such a lasting
  commitment; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Herb and Catherine Legate on their
  golden wedding anniversary and extend to them sincere best wishes
  for continued happiness; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Legate as an expression of high regard by
  the Texas House of Representatives.
