R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Battle of Medina BBQ Cook-Off Event is taking |
|
|
place on May 3 and 4, 2013, in Bexar County; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, This much-anticipated gathering honors the rich |
|
|
heritage of the Lone Star State and is named in honor of the 1813 |
|
|
battle fought in the local area, which was an early chapter in the |
|
|
struggle for Texas independence; the cook-off is sponsored by the |
|
|
descendants of the Losoya family and takes place on property that |
|
|
was part of a land grant that the family received from the Spanish |
|
|
government; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Drawing contestants from across the state, the |
|
|
Battle of Medina BBQ Cook-Off is an International Barbeque Cookers |
|
|
Association championship competition, with skilled pit masters |
|
|
striving to produce the tastiest fare in several different |
|
|
categories; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Revenue from the cook-off will go to nonprofit |
|
|
organizations in the local community and to El Carmen Cemetery at |
|
|
Our Lady of Mount Carmen Catholic Church, where a number of the |
|
|
soldiers who perished in the battle were laid to rest; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, This worthwhile benefit promises good food and |
|
|
spirited culinary competition, and it is sure to be enjoyed by all |
|
|
those who attend; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby commemorate the 2013 Battle of Medina BBQ |
|
|
Cook-Off Event and extend sincere best wishes to its sponsors and |
|
|
participants for a successful and memorable get-together. |
