R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The Battle of Medina BBQ Cook-Off Event is taking
  place on May 3 and 4, 2013, in Bexar County; and
         WHEREAS, This much-anticipated gathering honors the rich
  heritage of the Lone Star State and is named in honor of the 1813
  battle fought in the local area, which was an early chapter in the
  struggle for Texas independence; the cook-off is sponsored by the
  descendants of the Losoya family and takes place on property that
  was part of a land grant that the family received from the Spanish
  government; and
         WHEREAS, Drawing contestants from across the state, the
  Battle of Medina BBQ Cook-Off is an International Barbeque Cookers
  Association championship competition, with skilled pit masters
  striving to produce the tastiest fare in several different
  categories; and
         WHEREAS, Revenue from the cook-off will go to nonprofit
  organizations in the local community and to El Carmen Cemetery at
  Our Lady of Mount Carmen Catholic Church, where a number of the
  soldiers who perished in the battle were laid to rest; and
         WHEREAS, This worthwhile benefit promises good food and
  spirited culinary competition, and it is sure to be enjoyed by all
  those who attend; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby commemorate the 2013 Battle of Medina BBQ
  Cook-Off Event and extend sincere best wishes to its sponsors and
  participants for a successful and memorable get-together.
