R E S O L U T I O N

WHEREAS, Fernando Mancilla of San Antonio has ably served his fellow Texans as an intern in the office of State Representative J. D. Sheffield during the 83rd Legislative Session; and

WHEREAS, A student at The University of Texas at Austin, Mr. Mancilla is currently pursuing studies in government and Spanish; he is a Longhorn Scholar and the recipient of a Presidential Achievement Scholarship; in the summer of 2010, he traveled to China to study at Tsinghua University in Beijing; his affiliations include Omega Delta Phi fraternity, in which he has served as vice president of academics; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Mancilla has mentored middle school students through the Young Knights program and served as a College Forward mentor with AmeriCorps, working with 30 students and helping them to apply to institutions of higher education; he has also helped University of Texas freshmen make the transition to college through the Longhorn Scholar program; additionally, he has held an internship in the Child Support Division of the Texas Office of the Attorney General; and

WHEREAS, Through his participation in the legislative internship program, Fernando Mancilla has contributed to the work of state government while enhancing his knowledge of the legislative process and the issues that concern citizens of the Lone Star State, and he is indeed deserving of special recognition; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas Legislature hereby honor Fernando Mancilla for his service as a legislative intern in the office of State Representative J. D. Sheffield and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success in all his endeavors; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Mancilla as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
