R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Family, friends, and the arts community of El Paso |
|
|
are mourning the loss of Georgianna Sylvia Davanelos, who died on |
|
|
March 19, 2013, at the age of 41; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Born in Haverhill, Massachusetts, Ms. Davanelos |
|
|
graduated from the Presentation of Mary Academy and attended the |
|
|
University of Massachusetts Lowell; a talented singer, she joined |
|
|
the El Paso Opera in 2000 as a volunteer, singing in the chorus and |
|
|
later taking comprimario roles in many productions, including |
|
|
Madama Butterfly, Carmen, and Aida; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Ms. Davanelos went on to become an essential and |
|
|
beloved member of the opera's staff, working as executive |
|
|
assistant, artist administrator, and box office manager; outgoing, |
|
|
knowledgeable, and professional, she was regarded with respect and |
|
|
affection not only by the company's artists and staff, but by |
|
|
visiting opera singers from across the nation and around the world; |
|
|
and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A woman of deep religious faith, Ms. Davanelos |
|
|
shared her gift for singing with the choirs of St. Mark's United |
|
|
Methodist Church and First Baptist Church El Paso; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Georgianna Davanelos was a lively and warmhearted |
|
|
presence in the lives of her family and friends, and though her time |
|
|
here was far too brief, the memory of her vivacity, generosity, and |
|
|
passion for music remain to comfort and inspire all those who had |
|
|
the good fortune to know her; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to Georgianna Sylvia Davanelos and |
|
|
extend sincere condolences to the members of her family: to her |
|
|
mother, Patricia Davanelos; to her father, George Davanelos; to her |
|
|
sister, Jennifer Arredondo, and her husband, Mark; to her godson, |
|
|
Jared; to her nephews, Alex and Tony Arredondo; and to her other |
|
|
relatives and friends; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of |
|
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Georgianna |
|
|
Davanelos. |
