R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts in Spring, |
|
which opened in March 2008, welcomed its 100,000th visitor on |
|
October 13, 2012; and |
|
WHEREAS, The area's first fine arts museum outside the |
|
downtown Houston museum district, the institution was founded in |
|
partnership with the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, and others; it is |
|
named after the late Pearl Lilley Fincher, a civic leader who served |
|
on the board and whose family played a pivotal role in the |
|
development of the museum; and |
|
WHEREAS, The Pearl is housed in a former county library |
|
renovated through private funds, grants, and gifts; to date, the |
|
museum has received over $3.5 million from more than 2,000 generous |
|
donors committed to its goal of bringing original, high-quality |
|
works into the daily environment of area residents; and |
|
WHEREAS, Part of the Cypress Creek Cultural District, the |
|
Pearl is a non-collecting museum; it borrows from public and |
|
private collections, and in its first year alone, the museum |
|
exhibited the work of Western artist Frederic Remington, as well as |
|
gold objects from modern Ghana, paintings from 17th- and |
|
18th-century Europe, and antique and contemporary art glass; the |
|
facility also serves as a community center and complements its |
|
exhibitions with a busy schedule of programs and services to |
|
enlighten, educate, and entertain; and |
|
WHEREAS, The Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts is making a |
|
meaningful contribution to the community, and it is indeed fitting |
|
to recognize this outstanding addition to the cultural life of |
|
northwest Houston; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby honor the Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts on |
|
having surpassed the 100,000 visitor milestone and extend to all |
|
those associated with the institution sincere best wishes for |
|
continued success; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the museum as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
