R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, The Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts in Spring,
  which opened in March 2008, welcomed its 100,000th visitor on
  October 13, 2012; and
         WHEREAS, The area's first fine arts museum outside the
  downtown Houston museum district, the institution was founded in
  partnership with the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, and others; it is
  named after the late Pearl Lilley Fincher, a civic leader who served
  on the board and whose family played a pivotal role in the
  development of the museum; and
         WHEREAS, The Pearl is housed in a former county library
  renovated through private funds, grants, and gifts; to date, the
  museum has received over $3.5 million from more than 2,000 generous
  donors committed to its goal of bringing original, high-quality
  works into the daily environment of area residents; and
         WHEREAS, Part of the Cypress Creek Cultural District, the
  Pearl is a non-collecting museum; it borrows from public and
  private collections, and in its first year alone, the museum
  exhibited the work of Western artist Frederic Remington, as well as
  gold objects from modern Ghana, paintings from 17th- and
  18th-century Europe, and antique and contemporary art glass; the
  facility also serves as a community center and complements its
  exhibitions with a busy schedule of programs and services to
  enlighten, educate, and entertain; and
         WHEREAS, The Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts is making a
  meaningful contribution to the community, and it is indeed fitting
  to recognize this outstanding addition to the cultural life of
  northwest Houston; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby honor the Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts on
  having surpassed the 100,000 visitor milestone and extend to all
  those associated with the institution sincere best wishes for
  continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the museum as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
