R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, The Hardin County Crime Victims' Assistance Center
  works to protect, educate, and empower victims of violent crimes;
  and
         WHEREAS, Originally a VISTA program of the Women and
  Children's Center of Southeast Texas, the center became the
  organization it is today with the help of a grant in 1992 from funds
  established by the 1984 Victims of Crime Act; the center
  subsequently received additional support through funding provided
  by the Violence Against Women Act; and
         WHEREAS, Accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, the center
  is dedicated to lessening the trauma suffered by victims of
  violence, including sexual assault, robbery, and stalking; even in
  the face of reduced funding in recent years, it provided services to
  375 survivors of abuse and violence, including 122 children, in
  2012; and
         WHEREAS, The center's staff of professional advocates and
  trained volunteers teach workshops on preventing violence, partner
  with other agencies in the community to reach those in need, work to
  raise awareness of center services among area residents, and
  maintain contact with local law enforcement officials; and
         WHEREAS, Violence, including domestic abuse and sexual
  assault, continues to devastate the lives of numerous Texans, and
  the Hardin County Crime Victims' Assistance Center is a vital
  resource in the effort to help victims become survivors; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby honor the Hardin County Crime Victims'
  Assistance Center for its contributions and extend sincere
  appreciation to all those associated with the organization; and, be
  it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the center as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
