R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Iota Phi Lambda Sorority is celebrating the
  establishment of a new chapter in Dallas County on May 4, 2013; and
         WHEREAS, Founded in 1929 by Lola Mercedes Parker, Iota Phi
  Lambda is a national business and professional sorority with groups
  located in 80 cities, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. Virgin
  Islands; members work to enhance and improve the status of women in
  business, as well as to promote increased interest in business
  education among young women through programs and scholarships; the
  organization also provides educational, civic, and social service
  opportunities for people of all ages; and
         WHEREAS, Iota Phi Lambda hosts a variety of events for
  Business Month, Black History Month, and American Education Week
  and sponsors the Future Iota Leaders program, which offers
  mentoring opportunities for youth; included among its many national
  projects are Career Exploration, Iota Mothers Assistance Program,
  and the teen pregnancy prevention program, Toys "U" Can't Return;
  and
         WHEREAS, Together, the members of Iota Phi Lambda Sorority
  have helped to better the lives of countless Texans, and the
  organization of a new chapter provides a fitting opportunity to
  honor all those involved for their contributions to their community
  and state; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby honor Iota Phi Lambda Sorority on the occasion
  of the charter of its new Dallas County chapter and extend to all
  those associated with the initiative sincere best wishes for the
  future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the group as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
