R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, In an outstanding demonstration of strength and
  skill, the powerlifting team of H. M. King High School in
  Kingsville claimed the 2013 Texas High School Powerlifting
  Association Division 2 state championship on March 23 in Abilene;
  and
         WHEREAS, The victory gave King High School its first team
  state title in any sport, and it followed close on the heels of the
  squad's regional championship triumph, which was another first for
  the Brahmas; and
         WHEREAS, Pacing the team at the state meet were Nick Trevino
  and Michael Rodriguez, both of whom earned individual state titles;
  Mr. Trevino won the 220-pound weight class by hefting a total of
  1,580 pounds in the three lift categories; Mr. Rodriguez set two
  new state records with an 805-pound squat lift and a total weight of
  1,875 pounds as he secured the 242-pound title; and
         WHEREAS, Richie Salinas added to the team point total by
  finishing third in the 275-pound weight class, while Luis Lopez
  placed eighth in the super heavyweight division; and
         WHEREAS, The success realized by the Brahmas stemmed from
  their commitment and teamwork; the athletes pushed one another to
  reach their full potential and fully devoted themselves to their
  training, even continuing their regimen during school vacations;
  their efforts were guided by powerlifting coach Chad Barrett, who
  was honored with the THSPA Coach of the Year award; and
         WHEREAS, Winning a state championship is the dream of every
  high school athlete, and this achievement will be a continuing
  source of pride for the Brahma powerlifters as well as for their
  many supporters in the local community; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate the H. M. King High School
  powerlifting team on winning the 2013 Texas High School
  Powerlifting Association Division 2 state championship and extend
  to the team's athletes and to Coach Chad Barrett sincere best wishes
  for the future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
