R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Colony in Denton County has been named a |
|
|
finalist for the 2013 All-America City Award presented by the |
|
|
National Civic League, and its selection marks the first time that |
|
|
the community has been a top contender for this prestigious |
|
|
accolade; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Each year since 1949, the National Civic League has |
|
|
honored 10 communities from across the nation for excellence in |
|
|
innovation, inclusiveness, and civic engagement, as well as for |
|
|
success in meeting local challenges; in applying for the award, |
|
|
cities note significant projects that have been undertaken and also |
|
|
detail important issues faced by citizens; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Established in 1973, The Colony has grown into a |
|
|
thriving community of more than 37,000 people; the city focused on |
|
|
three outstanding initiatives in its application: the effort to |
|
|
rebuild the Kids Colony 2 playground, the mixed-use development |
|
|
project known as Grandscape, and the Volunteer Assistance Program, |
|
|
which helps homeowners maintain their property; a delegation from |
|
|
The Colony will share the community's story at the National Civic |
|
|
League awards event in Denver in June, when the winners will be |
|
|
announced; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, In advancing to the final round of judging in the |
|
|
National Civic League competition, The Colony has won notable |
|
|
recognition for its ability to meet challenges and opportunities |
|
|
with outstanding vision and collaborative effort; now, therefore, |
|
|
be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate The Colony on its selection as a |
|
|
finalist for the 2013 All-America City Award and extend to the |
|
|
city's officials and residents sincere best wishes as they continue |
|
|
to build an even brighter future for their community; and, be it |
|
|
further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for The Colony as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
|
House of Representatives. |
