R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Matthew Poursoltani of Pilot Point High School |
|
|
established a new state record and attained national fame with his |
|
|
700-pound bench press at the Texas High School Powerlifting |
|
|
Association Division 3 State Meet on March 23, 2013; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, With his record-setting lift, Mr. Poursoltani, a |
|
|
senior, broke his own state mark, set just two weeks earlier when he |
|
|
bench pressed 670 pounds at the Region 6 Division 3 meet; moreover, |
|
|
in hoisting more than a third of a ton, he accomplished a feat |
|
|
rarely attempted by a high school athlete in his weight class; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Poursoltani's performance at the state meet |
|
|
also included a squat lift of 650 pounds and a dead lift of 550 |
|
|
pounds; his overall total of 1,900 pounds handily outdistanced his |
|
|
closest competitor by 200 pounds and earned him the state |
|
|
championship in the 275-pound division; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, With his exceptional demonstration of strength and |
|
|
determination, Matthew Poursoltani has earned the admiration of his |
|
|
classmates, his competitors, and sports fans across the country, |
|
|
and he may take justifiable pride in his outstanding |
|
|
accomplishment; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Matthew Poursoltani on setting a |
|
|
new state record in the bench press and winning the THSPA Division 3 |
|
|
state title in the 275-pound weight class and extend to him sincere |
|
|
best wishes for continued success; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Mr. Poursoltani as an expression of high regard by the |
|
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
