R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Inspirational author and speaker Zig Ziglar of
  Plano, who changed the lives of countless people for the better with
  his positive messages and teachings, died on November 28, 2012, at
  the age of 86; and
         WHEREAS, Hilary Hinton "Zig" Ziglar was born on November 6,
  1926, as the 10th of 12 children in his family, and he grew up in
  Yazoo City, Mississippi; as a young man, he served this nation in
  the U.S. Navy in World War II, and he pursued studies at the
  University of South Carolina; and
         WHEREAS, During the course of a long career in sales,
  Mr. Ziglar became interested in motivational speaking, and after
  personally undergoing a transformation in his spiritual faith, he
  embarked on a new career as a speaker and author; in the years that
  followed, he presented his ideas on how to achieve success, often
  incorporating biblical principles into his teachings; he published
  his first book, See You at the Top, in 1975; he went on to write such
  titles as Raising Positive Kids in a Negative World, Success for
  Dummies, and Born to Win; his work has been translated into 36
  languages, and 10 of his books have been best sellers; and
         WHEREAS, A highly sought-after speaker, Mr. Ziglar spoke of
  how to excel through character, attitude, and skill to audiences
  across the nation and around the globe, and he appeared at events
  alongside former U.S. presidents and former British prime minister
  Margaret Thatcher; the company he founded continues to offer
  motivational and training seminars to corporations, small
  businesses, and other groups; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Ziglar's achievements were recognized on many
  occasions; the National Speakers Association presented him with the
  Master of Influence Award, the Council of Peers Award for
  Excellence, and the Cavett Award; moreover, he was cited three
  times in the U.S. Congressional Record for his work with youth in
  the war on drugs, his dedication to this nation, and his support of
  the free enterprise system; in 2001, he received the Silver Buffalo
  Award from the Boy Scouts of America; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Ziglar and his wife, Jean, married in 1946 and
  shared 66 years together; they were the parents of four children,
  Tom Ziglar, Cindy Oates, Julie Norman, and Suzan Witmeyer, who
  preceded her father in death; and
         WHEREAS, Zig Ziglar shared his insight and wisdom with people
  across the nation, reminding them that, as he put it, "You can have
  everything in life you want if you just help enough other people get
  what they want"; that powerful idea and the other principles he
  espoused resonated with individuals the world over, and they will
  continue to be an important influence long into the future; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life and work of Zig Ziglar
  and extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his
  wife, Jean Ziglar; to his daughters, Julie Norman and Cindy Oates;
  to his son, Tom Ziglar; to his 7 grandchildren, 12
  great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandson; and to his other
  relatives and friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Zig Ziglar.
