R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The members of the First United Methodist Church in |
|
|
Crowley are celebrating the 120th anniversary of their church's |
|
|
founding on October 12, 2013; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Since its inaugural meetings under an old oak tree |
|
|
in 1893, First United Methodist Church has benefited from the |
|
|
dedicated efforts of a number of outstanding clergy, including the |
|
|
Reverend Mary Gean Cope, who leads the congregation today; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, United by their shared faith and strong traditions, |
|
|
the members of this notable house of worship support a variety of |
|
|
commendable programs, including the Crowley House of Hope, which |
|
|
provides emergency assistance for local residents; for more than |
|
|
five decades, the congregation has hosted the annual Lord's Acre |
|
|
Harvest Festival, which enables members of the community to |
|
|
contribute to the church by donating proceeds from the sale of |
|
|
produce, quilts, and a variety of handcrafted items; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Countless area residents have looked to First United |
|
|
Methodist Church for spiritual enrichment and guidance through the |
|
|
years, and it is a pleasure to join in honoring the church at this |
|
|
special time in its rich history; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate all those associated with the First |
|
|
United Methodist Church of Crowley on its 120th anniversary and |
|
|
extend to its members sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it |
|
|
further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for the church as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
|
House of Representatives. |
