R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The citizens of Taylor Lake Village lost an esteemed |
|
community leader with the passing of Mayor-elect Lilian Norman |
|
Keeney on April 2, 2013; and |
|
WHEREAS, Born in 1938 in Gateshead, England, Lilian Keeney |
|
attended Newcastle University; she later immigrated to America, |
|
where she went on to become the owner of the Norman Insurance |
|
Agency; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mrs. Keeney had distinguished herself on the Taylor |
|
Lake Village City Council and as mayor pro tem before her recent |
|
election as mayor; her leadership was also acknowledged at the |
|
statewide level when she was appointed as a commissioner of the |
|
Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation by Governor Rick Perry |
|
in 2005, and she was reappointed to that post in 2011; and |
|
WHEREAS, A committed member of the Republican Party, |
|
Mrs. Keeney was a three-time delegate or alternate to the party's |
|
national convention; she served as president of the Bay Area |
|
Republican Women, which honored her with two awards, and she was a |
|
district director of the Texas Federation of Republican Women; for |
|
her efforts, she was named the Senate District 11 Volunteer of the |
|
Year by the state party in both 2007 and 2008; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mrs. Keeney also found time to serve as vice |
|
president and program chair of the Houston Symphony League Bay Area |
|
and as a member of the Museum Guild of Clear Lake; active in the |
|
Daughters of the British Empire, she further contributed her time |
|
and talent to support Mountbatten House, a home for the elderly; in |
|
addition, she was a faithful member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, Mrs. Keeney enjoyed the love and affection of her |
|
husband, Jon, and she was devoted to her sons, David and Jeff; over |
|
the years, she delighted in welcoming six granddaughters into her |
|
family; and |
|
WHEREAS, Lilian Keeney served as an inspiring role model to |
|
many, and she leaves behind a legacy that will be forever treasured |
|
by all those who were fortunate enough to know her; now, therefore, |
|
be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Lilian Norman |
|
Keeney and extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to |
|
her husband, Jon Keeney; to her sons, Jeff Norman and his wife, |
|
Elizabeth, and David Norman and his wife, Bonnie; to her |
|
stepdaughter, Laura Keeney Spalding, and her husband, Charlie; to |
|
her granddaughters, Katelyn, Rachel, Anne, and Emily Norman, and |
|
Matti and Ellie Spalding; and to her other relatives and friends; |
|
and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Lilian |
|
Norman Keeney. |
