R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Thomas Neumann of Houston, executive director |
|
emeritus of the Jewish Institute for National Security Affairs, is |
|
an exceptional leader whose achievements merit special |
|
recognition; and |
|
WHEREAS, JINSA is a think tank devoted to defense policy and |
|
national security, and during his tenure with the group, |
|
Mr. Neumann has helped it to become one of the fastest growing |
|
Jewish organizations in the country with more than 20,000 members; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Neumann was named executive director of the |
|
nonprofit in 1991; he pioneered the organization's foreign policy |
|
outreach, and he led delegations of political, corporate, and |
|
community leaders on trips to Israel, Turkey, India, China, Spain, |
|
Ethiopia, Uzbekistan, and other areas; in addition, he established |
|
the Latino-Jewish Alliance for a Secure America, and in 2001, he |
|
helped launch The Journal of International Security Affairs that |
|
JINSA publishes; and |
|
WHEREAS, In 1999, Mr. Neumann was voted the "Sixth Most |
|
Influential Jewish Leader" by The Forward, a Jewish American |
|
national newspaper; a notable speaker, he has made numerous |
|
television and radio appearances and addressed audiences on Capitol |
|
Hill and throughout the nation; and |
|
WHEREAS, Before joining JINSA, Mr. Neumann served as the |
|
executive vice president of B'nai B'rith International, and he held |
|
leadership positions with the Anti-Defamation League, including |
|
national director of the Intergroup Relations Division, national |
|
director of Community Services, and Southwest regional director of |
|
ADL activity in southern Texas; he also founded The Houston Center |
|
for International Affairs, the Christian/Jewish Committee for |
|
Israel, and Texas 1990; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Neumann returned to his hometown of Houston in |
|
2011, and he continues to work on behalf of JINSA as executive |
|
director emeritus and director of coalition development; he also |
|
writes book reviews for the Houston Chronicle and op-ed columns and |
|
articles for national newspapers; and |
|
WHEREAS, Thomas Neumann has contributed his many talents to |
|
the mission of the Jewish Institute for National Security Affairs, |
|
and in so doing, he has become one of the foremost Jewish leaders in |
|
the Lone Star State and the nation; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby commend Thomas Neumann for his service to the |
|
Jewish Institute for National Security Affairs and extend to him |
|
sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mr. Neumann as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
