R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Bianca Rosas, a senior at Holy Cross of San Antonio,
  has been selected as a 2013 Gates Millennium Scholar; and
         WHEREAS, Sponsored by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation,
  this program offers financial support to outstanding minority
  students to help them attend college and to reach their highest
  potential; established in 1999, the scholar awards focus on
  encouraging studies in the fields of education, engineering,
  library science, mathematics, public health, and the sciences at
  the undergraduate through doctoral levels; and
         WHEREAS, One of only 1,000 students from across the country
  to be named a Gates Millennium Scholar, Ms. Rosas earned this
  prestigious award on the basis of her academic achievements and her
  leadership abilities; ranked second in her class, she is a member of
  the National Honor Society, and her extracurricular activities
  include service as a Holy Cross Student Knight Ambassador, as a
  director for Teen ACTS, and as the altar server director for the
  parish and the school; in addition, she has helped raise funds to
  feed orphaned Ugandan children through the Uganda U-Knight Project;
  and
         WHEREAS, The daughter of Andrew and Carmen Rosas, Bianca
  Rosas plans to attend St. Edwards University in Austin to study
  biology, with the ultimate goal of earning a medical degree; and
         WHEREAS, Exciting challenges and opportunities await this
  outstanding young Texan, and she may reflect with pride on her
  selection for this distinguished honor as she looks forward to a
  future bright with promise; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Bianca Rosas on being named a 2013
  Gates Millennium Scholar and extend to her sincere best wishes for
  continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Ms. Rosas as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
