R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Bianca Rosas, a senior at Holy Cross of San Antonio, |
|
|
has been selected as a 2013 Gates Millennium Scholar; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Sponsored by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, |
|
|
this program offers financial support to outstanding minority |
|
|
students to help them attend college and to reach their highest |
|
|
potential; established in 1999, the scholar awards focus on |
|
|
encouraging studies in the fields of education, engineering, |
|
|
library science, mathematics, public health, and the sciences at |
|
|
the undergraduate through doctoral levels; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, One of only 1,000 students from across the country |
|
|
to be named a Gates Millennium Scholar, Ms. Rosas earned this |
|
|
prestigious award on the basis of her academic achievements and her |
|
|
leadership abilities; ranked second in her class, she is a member of |
|
|
the National Honor Society, and her extracurricular activities |
|
|
include service as a Holy Cross Student Knight Ambassador, as a |
|
|
director for Teen ACTS, and as the altar server director for the |
|
|
parish and the school; in addition, she has helped raise funds to |
|
|
feed orphaned Ugandan children through the Uganda U-Knight Project; |
|
|
and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The daughter of Andrew and Carmen Rosas, Bianca |
|
|
Rosas plans to attend St. Edwards University in Austin to study |
|
|
biology, with the ultimate goal of earning a medical degree; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Exciting challenges and opportunities await this |
|
|
outstanding young Texan, and she may reflect with pride on her |
|
|
selection for this distinguished honor as she looks forward to a |
|
|
future bright with promise; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Bianca Rosas on being named a 2013 |
|
|
Gates Millennium Scholar and extend to her sincere best wishes for |
|
|
continued success; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Ms. Rosas as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
|
House of Representatives. |
