R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, The prosperity of the Lone Star State has been
  greatly influenced by its notable tradition of ranching, and Jesus
  Gilberto Saenz has made many valuable contributions to the cattle
  industry over the course of his long career in Texas; and
         WHEREAS, Following his graduation from Benavides High School
  in 1957, "Chick" Saenz joined the United States Marine Corps and
  served his country for three years, becoming a marksmanship
  instructor during that time; honorably discharged in 1960, he
  returned home and ran cattle ranches, then worked for the Duval
  County Sheriff's Office for six years before joining the United
  States Department of Agriculture in 1972; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Saenz began his longtime involvement with the
  Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association in 1973; as a
  member of that organization's special rangers, he was commissioned
  through the Texas Department of Public Safety and certified by
  Texas A&M University--Kingsville; this esteemed law enforcement
  officer investigated such crimes as cattle rustling, equipment
  theft, poaching, and agricultural fraud in six South Texas
  counties--Duval, Jim Hogg, Webb, Zapata, Starr, and Hidalgo; his
  territory included the border between Laredo and Brownsville, where
  more than 20 crossing points offer opportunity for the transit of
  stolen cattle both to and from Mexico; in carrying out his duties,
  Mr. Saenz worked closely with a number of agencies on both sides of
  the Rio Grande; he also taught classes on livestock law and
  technology to members of other law enforcement agencies and was a
  certified marksmanship instructor helping to train police and law
  enforcement officers throughout South Texas; and
         WHEREAS, During his more than 40 years in law enforcement, 33
  of which were with the TSCRA, Mr. Saenz rendered invaluable service
  to ranchers in his district, and he may indeed reflect with pride on
  a career well spent; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby honor Chick Saenz for his distinguished career
  as a special ranger with the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers
  Association and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future;
  and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Saenz as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
