R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Longtime baseball coach and educator Hector Salinas
  received well-deserved recognition when he was inducted into the
  Texas A&M University--Kingsville Javelina Athletic Hall of Fame in
  February 2013; and
         WHEREAS, Coach Salinas was instrumental in creating the Texas
  A&M--Kingsville baseball program, and he was named the team's first
  head coach in 1993; his ball clubs had a winning record in each of
  the six seasons he was at the helm, and his teams claimed two Lone
  Star Conference championships; the first came in 1995, the same
  year he was named LSC Coach of the Year, and his players won the
  title again in 1998 and became the first Javelina team to go to the
  NCAA Division II playoffs; skilled at developing young talent, he
  guided 25 first team All-Conference players, 6 LSC Players of the
  Year, and 2 NCAA Division II All-Americans during his tenure at the
  university; and
         WHEREAS, The success Coach Salinas enjoyed with the Javelinas
  was built on his extensive baseball experience; a superb athlete in
  his own right, he played for Corpus Christi High School and then
  became an All-American at The University of Texas--Pan American; he
  began his career in education in 1968 at Tom Browne Middle School in
  Corpus Christi and went on to teach classes and coach baseball at
  Miller High School, Moody High School, Texas Southmost College, and
  Laredo Junior College before joining Texas A&M
  University--Kingsville; and
         WHEREAS, After concluding his service with the Javelinas, he
  spent seven years as the head coach at Texas A&M University--Corpus
  Christi and was once again responsible for building a program from
  the ground up, just as he had done at Laredo Junior College and
  Texas A&M--Kingsville; he now teaches at Richard Milburn Academy in
  Corpus Christi and is assistant secretary of the board of trustees
  of the Corpus Christi Independent School District; and
         WHEREAS, This esteemed coach has received numerous awards for
  his contributions to Texas athletics; he was inducted into the Leo
  Najo Sports Hall of Fame in 1980, the Moody High School Hall of Fame
  in 2000, and the Rio Grande Valley Sports Hall of Fame in 2010; and
         WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Coach Salinas enjoys the love
  and support of his wife, Thelma Salinas; the couple raised five
  children, Hilda, Orlando, Trey, Paula, and Brenda, and over the
  years, their family has grown to include nine grandchildren; and
         WHEREAS, Hector Salinas has helped countless athletes to
  succeed both on and off the ball field, and his outstanding work at
  Texas A&M--Kingsville has ensured that generations of young men
  will benefit from the valuable lessons they can learn as members of
  the Javelina baseball program; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Hector Salinas on his induction
  into the Texas A&M University--Kingsville Javelina Athletic Hall of
  Fame and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be
  it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Coach Salinas as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
