R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Reverend Max A. Miller, Jr., of Mount Hebron |
|
Missionary Baptist Church in Houston served as Pastor of the Day for |
|
the Texas House of Representatives on April 12, 2013; and |
|
WHEREAS, Since 2008, Reverend Miller has ably led Mount |
|
Hebron MBC, which was founded in 1958 by his uncle, |
|
Dr. J. J. Roberson; during his fine tenure, Reverend Miller has |
|
overseen numerous ministries and outreach efforts, including many |
|
options for young people and various activities at the church's |
|
family life center; and |
|
WHEREAS, Reverend Miller further shares his time and talents |
|
beyond the walls of his church in a number of ways; named president |
|
of the Baptist Ministers' Association of Houston and Vicinity, he |
|
has held additional leadership roles in that organization and in |
|
the Missionary Baptist General Convention of Texas and the |
|
Independent Missionary Baptist General Association; he has been a |
|
member of the Mayor's Ministerial Advisory Committee and has served |
|
as a ministerial liaison to the Houston public schools and as chair |
|
of the Southeast City Wide Street Ministry; moreover, he has |
|
distinguished himself as a member of Houston Ministers Against |
|
Crime, the NAACP, and the Bayou Oaks Civic Club, and he is the |
|
former president of the Garden Villas Elementary School Parent |
|
Teacher Association; and |
|
WHEREAS, A graduate of Milby High School in Houston, Reverend |
|
Miller attended Prairie View A&M University and graduated from |
|
Theodacious Theological Seminary in Houston; continuing his |
|
studies, he is currently pursuing a master's degree in business |
|
administration from the College of Biblical Studies; and |
|
WHEREAS, Reverend Miller exemplifies the highest standards |
|
of his vocation, and he has benefited many Texans with his strong |
|
faith and leadership; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby honor the Reverend Max A. Miller, Jr., for his |
|
service as Pastor of the Day and extend to him sincere best wishes |
|
for continued success and fulfillment; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Reverend Miller as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
