R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The board of trustees of the McAllen Independent
  School District was named the 2012 Outstanding School Board of the
  Year by the Texas Association of School Administrators; and
         WHEREAS, This accolade is part of the TASA awards program,
  which honors school boards that have made notable efforts to
  improve educational performance; the McAllen ISD trustees earned
  recognition for their innovative measures to assist students,
  including an initiative known as Transforming Learning in the
  Classroom, Campus, and Community; TLC3 is providing all students
  and teachers in the district with an iPad or iPod Touch in order to
  promote higher levels of engagement, creativity, and computer
  literacy, and the program is considered to be the largest of its
  kind in the nation; and
         WHEREAS, For its success in integrating technology into the
  classroom, McAllen ISD also received a 2013 Magna Award from
  American School Board Journal; in addition, the district was
  inducted in 2011 into the Digital Promise League of Innovative
  Schools and is a 2013 finalist for an H-E-B Excellence in Education
  District Award; moreover, in 2012, McAllen ISD was invited to
  participate in the Texas Education Agency's High Performance
  Schools Consortium to help develop next-generation learning
  standards, assessments, and accountability systems; and
         WHEREAS, Serving on the McAllen school board are president
  Hilda Garza-DeShazo, vice president Erica de la Garza, secretary
  Debbie Crane Aliseda, and trustees Dr. Joseph M. Caporusso, Javier
  Farias, Sam Saldivar, Jr., and Daniel D. Vela; and
         WHEREAS, Through their commitment to pursuing new avenues of
  learning, the McAllen ISD trustees are providing students with a
  rich educational experience that will serve them well in the years
  ahead, and the school board is indeed deserving of this prestigious
  award; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate the McAllen Independent School
  District Board of Trustees on being named the 2012 Texas
  Outstanding School Board of the Year and extend to its members
  sincere best wishes for continued success with their important
  work; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the trustees as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
