R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Fifteen-year-old Edson Amaro of Edinburg has
  demonstrated remarkable courage and resilience while healing from
  injuries sustained in a tragic accident; and
         WHEREAS, On December 12, 2011, Edson was trying out for the
  basketball team at Harwell Middle School, where he was an
  eighth-grader; sitting on a curb near the outdoor court, awaiting
  his turn to play, he was struck in the torso by a bullet that seemed
  to come out of nowhere; he suffered severe damage to multiple
  organs, including a kidney that had to be removed, and he spent
  nearly two weeks in Rio Grande Regional Hospital; and
         WHEREAS, Throughout his ordeal, this admirable young man has
  enjoyed the love and reassurance of his father, Pedro Amaro, as well
  as the support of his many friends and classmates; he is now in his
  first year at Economedes High School and has diligently worked to
  catch up on his studies, which were interrupted by the accident;
  while doctors have not yet released him to play contact sports, he
  enjoys his involvement in the JROTC and hopes to one day serve his
  country as a physician in the U.S. Army; and
         WHEREAS, Edson Amaro has endured extraordinary challenges
  while keeping an eye toward the future, and he has set an inspiring
  example for all who know him; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby commend Edson Amaro for his perseverance in
  overcoming a terrible event and extend to him sincere best wishes in
  all his endeavors; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Amaro as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
