R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the
  passing of Leslie Gerald Walker, Jr., of Houston on March 12, 2013,
  at the age of 85; and
         WHEREAS, Les Walker was born in Maryville, Tennessee, on
  August 14, 1927, to Leslie and Marguerite Walker; he graduated from
  Maryville High School and attended Maryville College for a year
  before joining the army and serving with the occupation forces in
  Germany in the aftermath of World War II; after his discharge, he
  earned a degree from the University of Tennessee and then joined the
  army once again; during his second enlistment, he attended Officer
  Candidate School and served as a paratrooper and jumpmaster; and
         WHEREAS, Following his return to civilian life, Mr. Walker
  embarked on a notable career in the insurance industry; he spent 37
  years with Liberty Mutual Insurance and rose to become a district
  manager, based in Houston; after a brief retirement, he worked for
  another 15 years with Adams Insurance Agency; and
         WHEREAS, Les Walker met Martha Hughes at a family retreat on
  the Warrior River in Alabama in 1957, and the couple were married a
  year later; they became the proud parents of two sons, Charles and
  Michael; and
         WHEREAS, In his leisure time, Mr. Walker enjoyed reading
  books about World War II and visiting war-related sites in Europe;
  he also vacationed with his family on numerous occasions in Gulf
  Shores, Alabama, and along Buffalo National River in Arkansas, as
  well as overseas; and
         WHEREAS, Les Walker treasured the time he spent in the
  company of his family and friends, and those he leaves behind will
  in turn cherish their memories of this kind and caring man; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Leslie Gerald
  Walker, Jr., and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his
  family: to his wife, Martha Walker; to his sons, Charles and Michael
  Walker; to his sister, Jean Smith; and to his other relatives and
  friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Leslie
  Gerald Walker, Jr.
