R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Elyse Pravel, a senior at Harmony Science Academy in |
|
|
Waco, has been named the recipient of the 33rd annual Outstanding |
|
|
Youth Citizenship Award by the Rotary Club of Waco and the Waco |
|
|
Tribune-Herald; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Twenty-five seniors from McLennan County schools |
|
|
were nominated for the award, which honors an individual who excels |
|
|
in the classroom and in community service activities; Ms. Pravel is |
|
|
the first student from Harmony Science Academy to be chosen as the |
|
|
winner, and she was honored at a luncheon and received a $4,000 |
|
|
scholarship; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The selection committee for the Outstanding Youth |
|
|
Citizenship Award noted Ms. Pravel's dedication to mentoring and |
|
|
tutoring in the community; she works with the College Readiness |
|
|
Leadership Program to assist middle school and early high school |
|
|
students in preparing for standardized tests and in developing |
|
|
beneficial study habits; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Ms. Pravel is particularly interested in math and |
|
|
robotics and is the director of design for the robotics team at her |
|
|
school; in addition, she participates in the Math Olympiad and |
|
|
helped to charter the school's student council; in her spare time, |
|
|
she likes to paint and sketch, and she takes Turkish language |
|
|
classes; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The daughter of proud parents John and Donna Pravel |
|
|
of Waco, Ms. Pravel is expected to graduate as the valedictorian of |
|
|
her class in 2013, and in the fall she will enroll at The University |
|
|
of Texas at Austin, where she plans to major in mathematics and |
|
|
education; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The strength of our communities depends, in great |
|
|
measure, on the initiative of young people like Elyse Pravel who are |
|
|
devoted to their studies and who use their considerable talents to |
|
|
assist others, and she is indeed deserving of this prestigious |
|
|
honor; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Elyse Pravel on her receipt of the |
|
|
Outstanding Youth Citizenship Award and extend to her sincere best |
|
|
wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Ms. Pravel as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
|
House of Representatives. |
