R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Lindsey Wallace, Jr., is retiring as superintendent |
|
of the Dawson Independent School District at the conclusion of the |
|
2012-2013 school year, drawing to a close a notable tenure in |
|
education that has spanned three decades; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Wallace's early education took place in Clifton, |
|
and he became the first person in his family to graduate from |
|
college when he earned his bachelor's degree at Howard Payne |
|
University; he later received a master's degree in religious |
|
education from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, a |
|
master's degree in school administration from Sul Ross State |
|
University, and superintendent certification from Angelo State |
|
University; and |
|
WHEREAS, Beginning his career as a teacher and coach in |
|
Imperial, he subsequently accepted posts in Hamilton, Marfa, |
|
Itasca, and Rankin, where he also worked as an assistant principal; |
|
he later became a middle school principal in Reagan County, then |
|
served the Robert Lee Independent School District as an elementary |
|
principal, high school principal, and superintendent; he had also |
|
been a high school principal in Elgin ISD before becoming the |
|
superintendent of Dawson in 2006; and |
|
WHEREAS, A genial and inspiring leader who prefers small |
|
schools, Mr. Wallace adheres to the belief that an outstanding |
|
educational system is built on the personal connections established |
|
with families and the community at large; through the years, he has |
|
successfully carried out that practice, resulting in the campuses |
|
and districts under his guidance earning numerous Recognized and |
|
Exemplary accountability ratings, and he has consistently |
|
demonstrated his ability to help students and staff reach their |
|
full potential; and |
|
WHEREAS, Generous with his time and talents outside the |
|
office as well, Mr. Wallace can always be counted on to fill in as a |
|
bus driver or to transport students to sporting events or the |
|
doctor's office in his personal vehicle; this Good Samaritan has |
|
even paid bills anonymously to help out needy families; he was |
|
selected as an FFA Supporter in the Robert Lee and Dawson school |
|
districts and designated a friend of the Family, Career and |
|
Community Leaders of America, which acknowledged his many |
|
achievements at its regional conference in February 2013; and |
|
WHEREAS, In all of his endeavors, Mr. Wallace enjoys the love |
|
and support of his wife of 34 years, Janet, and their treasured |
|
family has grown over time to include a daughter, Rachel Thornell, |
|
and her husband, Corban; after his retirement, Mr. Wallace will |
|
join his wife in Midland, where she is the principal of a charter |
|
school; and |
|
WHEREAS, Lindsey Wallace's dedication, professionalism, and |
|
commitment to excellence have enriched the education of countless |
|
young Texans, and he may indeed reflect with pride on his |
|
accomplishments as he embarks on the next exciting chapter of his |
|
life; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Lindsey Wallace on his retirement |
|
as superintendent of the Dawson Independent School District and |
|
extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mr. Wallace as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
