R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Shirley Cooper was inducted into the DeSoto
  Independent School District Hall of Honor at a special ceremony on
  May 3, 2013; and
         WHEREAS, The Hall of Honor was established to pay tribute to
  notable alumni of DeSoto High School and other individuals who have
  excelled in their service to area schools or have made special
  contributions to the district's educational mission; and
         WHEREAS, Ms. Cooper taught in the district for 35 years and
  chaired the English department for 27 years; she played a key role
  in initiating the advanced placement program, which helped the
  school to earn a spot on the Newsweek list of the top 100 U.S. high
  schools in 1998; moreover, she served as a sponsor for the National
  Honor Society and the senior class and directed many theatrical
  performances at the school; her career in education has also
  included work as a consultant with the College Board, and she is now
  employed with Dallas ISD; and
         WHEREAS, Shirley Cooper made a positive difference in the
  lives of many students through her dedicated work in behalf of
  DeSoto ISD, and in so doing, she earned the lasting respect of the
  community; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Shirley Cooper on her induction
  into the DeSoto Independent School District Hall of Honor and
  extend to her sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Ms. Cooper as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
