R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The University of Texas Medical Branch has
  deservedly been named the 2013 Employer of the Year by the Galveston
  County Daily News; and
         WHEREAS, Established in 1891 as The University of Texas
  Medical Department, UTMB was the first academic health center to be
  created in Texas and is among the oldest in the nation; its 84-acre
  campus features four schools, three institutes for advanced study,
  a comprehensive medical library, and numerous research facilities,
  along with a network of hospitals and clinics that provide a full
  range of primary and specialized medical care; and
         WHEREAS, The largest employer in Galveston County, UTMB
  provides jobs to thousands of local residents, with a staff that
  includes medical professionals, corporate executives, clerical
  workers, police officers, librarians, and more, and the benefits of
  this large and diverse workforce are many; the center attracts
  outstanding health care providers and educators to the county, and
  it contributes millions of dollars in tax revenue while generating
  billions of dollars in spending across the state; and
         WHEREAS, UTMB has earned great distinction for itself and its
  staff with its commitment to improving the health and well-being of
  the people it serves, and in so doing, it has strengthened the
  economy and prosperity of Galveston County and the entire Lone Star
  State; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate The University of Texas Medical
  Branch on its selection as the 2013 Employer of the Year by the
  Galveston County Daily News and extend to all those associated with
  the organization sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be
  it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for UTMB as an expression of high regard by the Texas House
  of Representatives.
