R E S O L U T I O N

WHEREAS, The Benson Farm & Ranch in Johnson City is marking the auspicious occasion of its 50th anniversary on May 25, 2013; and

WHEREAS, Situated in the Texas Hill Country, the Benson ranch was established in 1963 with the purchase of 300 acres, and it continues to operate under the direction of its founder, Tom Benson, and his family; and

WHEREAS, Over the course of its history, the ranch has expanded in size, facilities, and scope; in the years spanning 1977 and 1989, a total of 120 horses were stabled at Benson, among them a prized racing mare, "Si Cima," that went on to prevail in several competitions; and

WHEREAS, In the fall of 1983, the Benson family began raising certified Black Angus cattle, and their efforts have been recognized by the American Angus Association with designation as a Top Breeder and numerous Pathfinder Awards; and

WHEREAS, Today, the Benson ranch is also a premier hunting destination; since 2001, visitors from throughout the state and nation have been drawn to its abundant selection of trophy whitetail deer and exotic game; and

WHEREAS, For five decades, the Benson Farm & Ranch has been a successful operation, contributing to the economic prosperity of the Johnson City area, and this milestone year offers a welcome opportunity to recognize it; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas Legislature hereby congratulate the Benson family on the 50th anniversary of the Benson Farm & Ranch and extend to the family members sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the Benson family as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
