R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Words cannot adequately express the profound sorrow
  felt at the tragic loss of Alex Taylor Olmsted of San Antonio, who
  died on March 23, 2013, at the age of 18; and
         WHEREAS, The cherished son of Matt Olmsted and Linda Garza,
  Alex Olmsted was a senior at Jefferson High School; he was a proud
  member of the Jefferson Mustangs football team, where his skill
  combined with his formidable 6 feet, 3 inches, and 255 pounds made
  him an effective offensive lineman, and he was an equally tenacious
  competitor in track; and
         WHEREAS, A standout in the classroom as well, Mr. Olmsted
  placed among the top 10 graduating seniors at his school; he was a
  member of the National Honor Society and a National Hispanic Merit
  finalist, and he challenged himself in multiple advanced placement
  courses; having spent the past summer working as an intern at a law
  firm, he had dreams of attending Harvard University and someday
  embarking on a legal career of his own; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Olmsted enjoyed close bonds with his family
  members, including his older brother Matt, and was admired and
  beloved by peers and teachers alike; he had a hearty sense of humor
  and a fondness for nicknames, having assigned one to each of his
  teammates on his football team, and was himself known as "Big
  Country" in affectionate acknowledgement of his rural roots;
  good-natured and kind, he was always ready to lend a hand or a
  sympathetic ear to those in need; and
         WHEREAS, Although the loss of a life so filled with promise
  brings immeasurable heartache, those who were fortunate to know
  Alex Olmsted will forever treasure their memories of this inspiring
  young man and the passion, ambition, and generosity with which he
  lived; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Alex Taylor Olmsted
  and extend sincere sympathy to his relatives and many friends; and,
  be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Alex
  Olmsted.
