R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, Linda W. Cohn has rendered outstanding service to
  the League of Women Voters of the Houston Area during her two-year
  term as president of the organization; and
         WHEREAS, The granddaughter of a proud naturalized citizen,
  Linda Cohn was born in Manhattan and studied government at City
  College of New York; she later moved with her husband to Houston
  and, while raising their three children, managed to find time in her
  busy schedule to volunteer at the polls; and
         WHEREAS, For more than a decade, Ms. Cohn has worked
  tirelessly to increase voter participation in the Houston area;
  before her election as director and president of the LWV chapter in
  2011, she served as chair of the Repast with Political Pioneers
  event and co-chair of the voter registration committee; in that
  role, Ms. Cohn spearheaded the group's efforts to help qualified
  applicants complete their citizenship documents; she has also
  partnered with other civic groups to streamline voter registration
  at the monthly naturalization ceremonies, increasing voting
  applications from new citizens more than tenfold; and
         WHEREAS, This dynamic Texan has coauthored the league
  publication Handy Dandy Guide to the Election and has cooperated
  with Houston Media Source TV to create a monthly league-sponsored
  program, both of which inform citizens about relevant local issues;
  in addition, she has actively encouraged young Texans to become
  deputy voter registrars through the organization's youth
  engagement program; she also developed a Voter Registration Tool
  Kit to be used by other groups, such as nursing homes and assisted
  living facilities, who conduct independent registration drives;
  and
         WHEREAS, Through her energetic, determined leadership, Linda
  Cohn has encouraged countless fellow Texans to fully participate in
  the democratic process, and her work with the league has been of
  immeasurable benefit to her community; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby honor Linda Cohn for her service as president of
  the League of Women Voters of the Houston Area and extend to her
  sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Ms. Cohn as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
