R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, Members of the Peking University Alumni Association
  of Houston are gathering on May 18, 2013, to celebrate the 115th
  anniversary of their alma mater; and
         WHEREAS, Established in 1898 and originally known as the
  Imperial University of Peking, this noteworthy institution was the
  first national university in China offering programs in a
  comprehensive array of disciplines; it adopted its modern-day name
  in 1912; and
         WHEREAS, Peking University has remained one of China's
  leading institutions, and at the end of the 20th century, the
  government placed it at the top of its higher education agenda to
  further develop its international reputation; in 2000, it merged
  with Beijing Medical University, and its outstanding faculty
  includes 53 members of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, 7 members of
  the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and 14 members of the Third
  World Academy of Sciences; and
         WHEREAS, For over a century, Peking University has provided
  students with tools to build a strong foundation for future
  success, and its alumni can take justifiable pride in its long
  tradition of excellence; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate the PKU Alumni Association of
  Houston on the 115th anniversary of Peking University and extend to
  the group sincere best wishes for a memorable observance; and, be it
  further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the association as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
